Coloured gemstones are a reflection of nature’s boundless beauty. Julia works predominantly with coloured stones, as she has a natural affinity with colour. She often treats the stones like a painting, as demonstrated in her multi-coloured tourmaline pieces. Her spessartite and opal earrings were inspired by Matisse, as he believed orange and blue should be together.

Julia travels extensively to source her stones. Brazil, India and many other countries, and annually attends the world’s largest gem fair in Tucson, US – where the gem dealers of the world gather. She has been going to Inhorgenta, Germany for 30 years, where she has such good contacts. She can also source diamonds, pearls closer to home.
