Bespoke Engagement Rings are my favourite commission. It is such a personal journey. Whether it is the couple coming to me after the engagement has happened or the man in trepidation as to how he is going to choose the ring on his own. Recently a client sent a first email saying "I have just started the dreaded task of finding the perfect engagement ring." After three consultations looking at rings, stones and designs he exclaimed "you have made this experience so easy for me, I am thrilled!"

At the initial consultation, we discuss a range of ideas and look at examples. I gain a feel of what they might want. Some people know what they want, others have never thought about rings before. Through a mix of listening and looking at pictures, I find out what they want. If the couple come together there are sometimes differences of opinion, so you have to be tactful. It is a good idea to know the budget early on. From this initial meeting I will make a stone layout, source stones, draw up designs and find rings for them to try.

Sometimes clients want to include their own stone, use an old ring, or recycle the gold. I find that increasingly the trend is away from a traditional engagement ring. They want something a little unique and special, such as a paraiba tourmaline set with diamonds in either a cluster or three stone style.

Once the design of the ring is finalised, the manufacturing takes approximately 3-4 weeks. I find making engagement rings either for the couple together or for the man who is going to propose, so rewarding, as you are part of their existing journey.
