Tanzanite Engagement Ring

The Story
Jenni had seen my work and wanted to commission a statement ring for her engagement, using a large tanzanite that she already owned.
She wanted a ring that could be worn every day - tanzanite is not a particularly hard stone, so a protective bezel / rub over setting was advisable, to prevent any damage.
The first step was to complete a paint up design of how the ring would look.
The second part of this commission was equally rewarding. Jenni was so delighted with her one-of-a-kind engagement ring, a few months later I was commissioned to create her wedding ring. True to form this was not a traditional wedding band.
Pink Tourmaline Wedding Ring
Jenni sourced a large oval shaped pink tourmaline, and wanted a similarly statement effect for the finished piece. Here are my initial drawings for the design. The stone was very deep, so we decided to make a feature of this, by using a split shank, which allows the stone to be seen within its setting. The beaten texture that was so integral to the design of the engagement ring was carried through to this ring too.
The finished piece is spectacular, and will be treasured by this non-traditional bride.
